Abrasives, abrasive paper and other useful abrasive products

Careful sanding creates a smooth surface for wood, metal and plastic that can be easily painted or varnished. For this purpose, there are many different abrasives, such as abrasive paper, abrasive sponges, abrasive mats, and abrasive fleeces. Also useful are wire brushes and paint scrapers which can be used to remove old coats of paint, dirt, rust and a patina in the case of wood.

Thorough preparation and careful sanding of the substrate are essential prerequisites for successful painting or varnishing. There are many practical products for this work that will make the job easier. 

Abrasives for various applications  

Abrasive paper is produced in many grains, for example 60, 80 or 120. The larger this number, the finer the corundum on the abrasive paper and thus the surface that is produced by sanding with the paper. You can use this paper in combination with sanding tools or a simple sanding cork.

To sand curves and profiles, however, it is best to hold it in your hand. The abrasive sponges and abrasive mats are also well suited for this purpose. They are soft and flexible so they can be bent into any shape. Abrasive sponges are also used for intermediate sanding after the first coat of paint.

A particularly fine abrasive is the abrasive fleece, which is mainly used for painting work. It is suitable for sanding wood, metal and plastic. With the fine abrasive fleece from our shop ADLER Farbenmeister you can also massage oil into your wooden floor of the terrace to replenish its surface and protect the wood from atmospheric influence or exposure.

Wire brushes and paint scrapers for renovation work

Brass-wire brushes are often used for the restoration of furniture, fences, garden houses and other wooden buildings. They remove dirt, old coats of paint and a patina from wooden surfaces, and with their metal bristles penetrate into the pores of the wood. This pretreatment makes the subsequent pickling and sanding of the wood easier. Rust can also be removed from metal objects with a wire brush. However, you can also use a rust remover from our shop which will make the job a little easier.
The paint scrapers are suitable for removing an old one. These scrapers are also helpful if a paint job has not been so successful. Using the scraper carefully remove runners and drops. Subsequently sand the surface once again with a fine abrasive paper and apply a further layer of varnish. The surface should then look as you imagined.
