Floor sealing – good protection for wooden floors

A wooden floor should be sealed so that it is protected against scratches, damage and, above all, moisture. For this purpose there are primers and parquet varnishes, which lay like a protective layer on the wood. With this sealing in two steps, a parquet becomes extremely durable and looks good even after many years of use.

A floor seal serves the purpose of protecting a wooden floor or parquet. It lays on the wood like a protective film and thus prevents scratches and damage which could easily occur during use. It also prevents water and other liquids from penetrating the wood. This could cause the floor to swell in these places. With a floor seal, the durability of a wooden floor can thus be extended and the beauty of the wood is preserved for a long time

A wooden floor requires two protective layers

If you want to seal your parquet yourself, you should carry out the floor coating in two steps. The basis for good protection of the wood is the primer. It ensures good adhesion of the varnish layer and at the same time insulates wood components like the tanning agents. This is followed by sealing with a parquet varnish, which protects the wood from external influences. Parquet varnishes are available in glossy and silky matt finishes. Both variants prevent the wood from being scratched and are even resistant to many chemical substances. It is therefore up to you to decide which varnish you prefer.

Wooden floor primers

As a primer for your wooden floor, you can use our ADLER Floor Start. Floor Start is ready for use and can be easily applied with a roller and with a paintbrush for the corners.  The substrate should be dry and free of grease. If there are joints or cracks in your floor, you can treat them beforehand with our Floor-Fill. After curing, this filler is best sanded with abrasive paper in grain size 120.

Parquet sealing

After the primer has dried, apply the parquet varnish. Prior sanding of the floor is not necessary with our parquet sealing varnish Floor Classic. This varnish can also be easily rolled or painted and is best applied in two layers. A sealed floor is protected not only from scratches and damage but also from moisture for a long period of time. It also looks good and can be cleaned without much effort. For further care, you can find practical sets with a cleaner and a cleaning agent in our shop ADLER Farbenmeister.
