Legno waxes and oils – a natural wood protection with many advantages
Legno waxes and oils are a natural protection for all wood surfaces. They allow the wood to breathe and give it a surface that feels velvety soft. The grain of the wood is also intensified by this treatment and is as a result very attractive. These oils and waxes are available in many finishes and colour shades matching the respective species of wood.
Wood does not necessarily need a varnishing for it to be protected from moisture and other influences. Especially in interior spaces a wax, oil or combination of both products, like the Legno Hartwachsöl (hard wax oil), is sufficient. They are suitable as wood protection for all foliage and softwoods.
The benefits of waxing and oiling
Waxes and oils form a protective film on the wood so that no water can penetrate. Nevertheless, the pores remain open, meaning that air and moisture compensation can take place. In addition, these wood preservatives keep the wood supple so that no cracks are formed, and the natural grain of the wood is brought out. Technically speaking this effect is called grain accentuation.
However, care with wax or oil also has some advantages for the user. Waxed or oiled wood feels velvety soft and warm, while painted wood surfaces are rather cool. In addition, waxes and care oils do not release any harmful substances. For this reason, they are particularly popular among families with small children, where they are also used in the surface treatment of toys. A further advantage of waxing and oiling is that it can be easily worked with. They are simply applied to the furniture with a cloth or a paintbrush. Special craftsmanship and pretreatment of the wood are therefore not necessary.
The design possibilities with Legno waxing and oils
Wood oils and waxes can be colourless or dyed. With our coloured ADLER Legno-Öl (Legno oil), the colour of the wood can be intensified somewhat like with a transparent wood finish. These oils are therefore produced in numerous colour nuances to match the individual species of wood. Another variant is the white Legno-Öl. It is particularly suitable for light species of wood which should keep their natural bright colour shade. Due to the oil, the wood appears slightly limed. A wood preservative with Legno-Öl or Legno-Wachs (Legno wax) can be renewed multiple times.
Should the wood become dirty during use, it can be cleaned with a cleaner of dust and stains before it is next oiled or waxed. The Legno-Reiniger (cleaner), which can be used to remove grease spots, is suitable for this purpose.
